Springing Into Your Closet
Spring is on the way and for me that means getting my closet ready for the new season. I began yesterday and I’m still in the middle of it and I thought, I ought to just share what all I do to get my closet ready for the upcoming season. I do the same in the Fall. I love the idea of making my closet like my own personal boutique. Everything that is in my closet is exactly what I love and works for me. I know my fashion style and I know the colors that I love and work for my hair, skin and eye color. I can honestly say that I love walking in my closet to get dressed each day. Everything is there that I can put an entire outfit together; clothing, jewelry, scarves, shoes and handbags. I decorate my closet with things that I love that represent my style.

This is what I do to get my closet ready for the new season:
I take all of my clothing out of my closet and lay it on my bed in categories. I have an extra closet that I store seasonal things. So before I put them in that closet I go through each piece to make sure I really want it and like it. If I don’t, it goes in a giveaway pile. Then I pull the pieces that I can still use for this season. It stays a bit cool throughout our spring, so I like to keep something warm to wear just in case until summer is in full bloom. I store the things that I won’t be wearing until next fall and winter in my extra closet. I then do the same for the spring and summer pieces from my storage closet. Before I put things back into my closet I clean the clothing racks, shelves and vacuum in the corners.
It’s now time to put everything back in my closet. I have several sections with bars so I keep like pieces together. Such as all my pants in one area and I continue on with tops, dresses, skirts, and layering pieces. I organize not only by types of clothing but by color in each category and from there I go by sleeve length. I purchased some new hangers that match my closet colors and little round dividers that clip onto the closet rod. I separate each color in their category with the dividers. I just like the way it looks and it feels more organized to me. I also have to have my hangers spaced evenly. I sound a little OCD, don’t I? I’m really not. I just like order and it helps me to get dressed easier.
I do the same with my shoes and handbags. My favorite thing to do is I have most of my costume jewelry out on display. I have the rest of my jewelry in organized drawers in jewelry organizers. I love seeing everything while getting ready and if I want to switch my handbag I easily see my choices.
Decorating a closet is easy as you use the things you love, your jewelry, handbags and even shoes. I collect fashion books and I display them in my closet as well. I have a mannequin that I dress in something that makes me smile. I even gave her a name…Betsy. She can wear anything and never complains.
All that to say, everything in my closet is what fits me and I love wearing for this upcoming season. It’s easy for me to put an outfit together even when I’m short on time. Not to mention it makes me smile.
I have a wicker basket in the corner that I put things that I decide I don’t want anymore because it either doesn’t fit right or I’m just tired of it. When it gets full I will give it all away to someone that will enjoy.
Are you ready to design your own boutique? It doesn’t matter how small, large or style….try it, you will have fun!
Until next time,
