Catching Up on My Challenge!

Today is September 26th.  My last post for the challenge was on September 14th!  With traveling and so much happening, I got behind on my challenge.  I refuse to give up!  So, here is a quick catching up of the challenges that I accepted at the beginning of September!

Are you ready?  Here we go:

#15 – What’s In Your Bag? (I actually took a picture the morning of the 15th and that was as far as I got.)

IMG_7740
I changed bags last Wednesday to something more Fall looking. I carried this for the past couple of months. I love purses and I have a hard time finding one that feels comfortable to me. Needless to say, I have a closet full of purses!
IMG_7741
I don’t like to carry a lot of things in my purse. I like to be able to reach in and get what I need and not have to fumble through a lot of things. I have a wallet, card case, glasses case as I’m needing my reading glasses more and more, gum, Brighton writing pen, always have to have disinfectant wipes, lotion, a makeup bag with various things.
IMG_7744
I found this at the bottom of my purse. When I was in Target, I couldn’t resist this and while paying for my things, I told the clerk I would put it my purse to nibble on, on my way home. I forgot about it until now.
IMG_7742
All these little things have to be in a bag or I would go crazy looking for it in my purse. Comb, Advil, couple of lip colors, more lotion, chap stick and some papaya enzymes. I think that’s about it! I rarely open this bag. If my purse is too heavy while out and about, I will take this out to lighten the load.

#16 – What is the Real Me vs. the On-line Me? Are they the same or different?

I feel like I’m the same person.  I try to be real and honest in my writing and in person.  I’ll have to admit that writing thoughts out is much easier. I tend to be quieter in person and will give my thoughts and opinions when asked.  (Unless, something is done or said that I think I must voice my thoughts in order to set something right.) With blogging, I’m free to just talk (type) away….

#17 – What is my latest obsession?

I have lot’s of obsessions!  I tend to love everything!  I guess right now, it would be Fall.  I love the colors, the nip in the air and the clothes, oh, the clothes!!!

#18 – Record a Vlog.

I’m just not ready to make a video of myself.  I may try it eventually, but…..nah, not ready!!!!

#19 – What was the best day of my life?

This is a hard one to answer.  I’ve had many days that I look back on as great days!  Of course, the day that I asked Christ into my life!  That was a life changer for sure!  How about the day that I married my Jim, another great day and then when my first baby girl was born 3 years later and then our baby boy 3 years after that.  Oh, and then there was the day that our daughter married her husband and then when our first grand baby was born!  And…four more after that!!!  Can’t forget the day our son married his love.  Can it get any better?  God is so good.  Yes, even when I have bad days, God is still good!

#20 – What is a guilty pleasure of mine?

I love watching a good Hallmark movie!  When one is on, I look forward to settling down and just escaping for a while.  Matter of fact one is coming on tonight.  I have the recorder set.

#21 – My favorite quote.

“Live your life in such a way that when you wake up in the morning, satan says, “Oh no, she’s awake!”

I’m not sure who wrote that, but I love it.  I hope that is so true for my life!

#22 – Give a glimpse of my creativity.

Right now, I’ve been working at decorating our, Hill Country Get-Away, home.  I’m anxious to take you on a tour.

#23 – Invite a guest blogger for today’s challenge.

On this challenge, I will direct you to a post from a few days ago that shared a friend who just published a book.  Click here to read about it.

#24 – What are 5 of my favorite blogs that I read.

I have several blogs that I read, but I’ll try to pick 5.  (I may make a list soon of all the blogs I read.)

Purple Chocolate Home

Elizabeth George

StoneGable

The Ribbon in My Journal

A Wise Woman Builds Her Home

#25 – What are 3 songs that I’m connecting to right now?

As I’m working on this post, we have K-Love playing throughout the house.  I’m going to list the three songs that I’ve loved listening to today.

That Was Then, This Is Now by Josh Wilson

At The Cross by Chris Tomlin

Cast My Cares by Finding Favour

Okay, two more:

Forever by Kari Jobe

Soar by Meredith Andrews

#26 – What did I recently read and what is on my Reading To Do List?

Fervent by Priscilla Shirer

I have a very long list of Reading To Do’s.

#27 – What is on my Wish List?

Right now, I’m thinking of the dishes and cookware that the Pioneer Woman has just come out with.

They will go really well in our get-away house!

Click here to take a look!

Okay, I’m caught up now.  I’m back on track and hopefully, I can say that I completed this challenge at the end of September.  Thank you to Bailey Jean of Brave Love Blog,  for giving this challenge.  It has been an eye opener to me in many areas of my life that maybe I will share later.

Enjoy every second of your day!

My Season!

Blog Challenge #13 – Create a collage or inspiration/mood board for this season in your life.

I hope this collage of pictures helps in describing where I am in my season of life.  While searching for pictures for my collage and realizing what a disaster my pictures are, I had thought, maybe someone will do a digital organizing challenge soon! 🙂  I went to my Pinterest boards and took some of my favorite things from that and added a few of my own pictures.

What Are You Doing, Beverly?

Blog-tember Challenge #12

I’ve been doing the Blog Challenge with Brave Love Blog.  Each day we are given a writing prompt and we write a blog post and share on the Brave Love Blog.

Here is the question for today:

What are you up to currently?

2015blogtemberFINAL

I loved reading the answer to that question by Bailey Jean of Brave Love Blog.  She is the one that has issued this challenge.  I wanted to copy her outline and come up with fun answers to each one, but, I need more time than what I have, so I will just tell you exactly what I am doing now, at this moment.

It is 5 a.m.  My eyes popped open at 3 a.m.  I tossed and turned and told myself to just get up and get going.  My alarm was set for 6 a.m. to get ready to leave the house at 7:30 and drive 2 1/2 hours to watch my nephew play football.  He is sophomore and plays on the Varsity of his high school.  My mom has been visiting this past week at our “Hill-Country Home” and what fun it has been to have her here.  She loves watching her grandson play football!  This will be her last game for the season to be able to watch him since she will be having knee replacement surgery in a couple of weeks.  After the game, we will drive another 5 hours to get her back home.  Traveling makes me very sleepy even when I’ve slept good, so I know what is going to happen today while traveling.

That is what I’m currently up to!  I so wish, I had some fun things to list that is going on in my world right now, but I have to go dry my hair, decide what to wear, grab my things that I need to travel with and meet my husband and mom in the car at 7:30 a.m…….sharp! 😉

Have a blessed day!!!!!

It’s Friday Night!

Day #11 of the blog challenge from Brave Love Blog!

Here is the challenge for today:

It’s a Friday night and you decide to stay in. What do you do?

This one is easy!

We order pizza and watch a movie.  I’m not sure about the movie though. I am really picky about movies.  It usually takes us as long to go through the list on our Apple TV and watch previews than it does to actually watch a movie.  But, we will eventually settle on one.  Jim has to have popcorn and my favorite snack is Jr. Mints for movie time.

If hubby is out of town, then I settle in for a good Hallmark movie! (or two)  And then read, read, read until I fall asleep!

If…none of that works out, I love to be out shopping until the stores close.  Especially, if it is during holiday time.

I know, not very exciting, but I love those options. I’m very thankful, because that is what happens on most Friday nights!

One of my favorites, “When Calls the Heart.” I’m looking forward to the new season on The Hallmark Channel!

A Letter to Myself at 16!

#9 Blog Challenge:

Write a letter to sixteen-year-old you. Any advice or funny stories?

Bailey Jean at Brave Love Blog really knows how to give a challenge.  I’m hanging on and made it to Day #9.  This is another tough one as I’m having to go back and try to remember what frame of mind I was in at 16.  Wouldn’t that be an amazing thing if you could go back and be able to read a letter from your future self telling you to hang on, it will be okay?  Here we go…..

Dear Beverly,

Since you are 16 now, it is time for me to share some things and give you some advice.  Please read this and take it to heart.  Don’t ever forget what I’m about to tell you!

sc00372b85

*You are an amazing young lady.  You have worked hard at taking care of your two young brothers. You have such a love for them and you always make sure they have what they need and are doing good.  Continue to be close to them.  Love them even when they disappoint you. Teach them in love, don’t ever belittle them with words.  Let them know how much you love and care for them.

*I’m so proud of you for loving your mom like you do.  You have watched your mom struggle as a single mom and you help out in any way you can.  You are quiet the little homemaker, even at 16.  She can count on you to  be who you are supposed to be.  You love, respect and admire your mother greatly.  Keep watching her, as she is and will teach you life lessons that will come in pretty handy in your life!  She is a woman that gave her life to  Jesus at the age of 32 and she will only grow stronger! Her life changed 100% that day and her wisdom will amaze you!

*I know you hurt for your dad!  It’s okay to hurt.  You long for a healthy strong dad who doesn’t depend on alcohol to make it through a day.  You long for a dad who tells you he is proud of you and loves you.  You long for a dad who makes sure you have what you need.  He won’t be at those important events in your life, but, you will be okay, I promise!  Just continue to pray for him and think good thoughts and remember the few good memories you have of him.  Love him despite what you have seen and been through with him.  Forgive him.

*Girl, study in school!  I know you think it is such a waste of time and you would rather be at home taking care of your family, but you really need to study and apply yourself!  Trust me on that one!  What an opportunity to learn new things.  I’m going to go ahead and tell you this, because maybe it will motivate you….but…..you are going to homeschool your two children someday!  Don’t laugh!  You are!  And, you will be good at it.  But, oh, if you would just learn as much as you can now, it won’t be a shocker when you realize just how easy math can be as you teach your children someday.

*I know you are extremely shy.  You don’t like attention drawn to yourself at all!  Your face turns red if anyone talks to you….you will always have someone in your life that will make fun of your red face, trust me!  But, it will get easier.  Continue to lean on the Lord for your strength and boldness.  Remember when you thought you wanted to be an airline stewardess?  They don’t call them that anymore, but….you dreamed of the day you would fly around the world and you worried about being too shy to give instructions on the plane, so you…took a speech class.  You died a million deaths every Tuesday morning as that was the big speech day.  Even though you tried to get out of speech and they wouldn’t let you, you made it!  You won’t believe this one…you will speak to groups of ladies at retreats, conferences and even teach a Sunday School Class when you are older.  I know you don’t believe it, but, just wait and see.

IMG_2138

*Always know that anything you accomplish or do, will be because you depended on the Lord to give you strength.  He will come through every time!

*You are going to meet and marry a wonderful man someday.  He will show you what a Godly husband and father is all about!  You will struggle a bit because you didn’t really have any role models in the marriage department…..your future husband will have a lot of patience with you.  Just watch couples at church and learn as much as you can from them. Oh, and by the way, you will have two of the cutest and sweetest children and get this….you will even be a Mimi to some precious kiddos!

*Okay, now for some bad news…..You will be hurt by some people that you trust!  People that you have looked up to for teaching and guidance and encouragement.  I won’t tell you who, but you just be who you are supposed to be.  When these particular people let you down and you are shocked that they aren’t anything that they claim to be, just remember your worth and value isn’t dependent on them.  It will hurt, but you will get over it and you will learn from it. Your wisdom and discernment will only become stronger.  Forgiveness will be a struggle in this area, but you must learn to forgive even when they don’t deserve it or really care if you forgive them or not!

*I also want to encourage you to stay strong in your walk with Christ.  Study your Bible, memorize scripture, read encouraging books and share with others the goodness and saving grace of Jesus Christ.  Be a light and a witness for Him!

Now, all that to say…..enjoy being 16!  Live life to the fullest and love others.  Forgive and learn and share!  Don’t worry about how you look, what you have or don’t have.  You be as honest and real as you can be.  Guard your heart and your mind!  You got this!

Your future self,

Why and How I Vote!

IMG_6885
While shopping in Hobby Lobby, this sign made me take a second look. Too funny!

I grew up in a home where I never heard anything about politics. I don’t remember much being said at school until I was in Government class in high school. It was all very foreign to me. We did a class vote on who was running for president. I had never heard the names before and I just voted for the name that I liked best. Probably my senior year in high school, I started to have an interest in the political system.

The year that Jim and I got married was the year that President Reagan was shot. It hit me pretty hard while watching the news showing how it happened. Reagan was the first President that I paid attention to and I liked what I saw and heard. He made me feel safe when I listened to him. I felt like he loved our country and his goal was to protect and serve me. I saw humility and a love for people from all walks of life. He spoke with wisdom and care. Notice I didn’t say perfect. I didn’t really think of him being perfect, as I do know, that no one is perfect and never will be.   Since then, I have pretty much compared each President with Ronald Reagan.

I remember working the polls when Reagan ran for his second term. I don’t recall how I came about that at all. I loved getting to see how the system worked. Years later I met a very sweet lady named Iris. I call her my political mentor. She taught me how to get involved and get behind the issues that were important to me. What I used to say is “I vote for the person. It doesn’t matter if they are Democrat or Republican.” I began reading more and started researching issues that were important to me. I read the Democrat Party Platform, (click here to read) and the Republican Party Platform (click here to read.) I then decided it was the Republican Party that I would stand with since my beliefs lined up more with them. I am a Republican.

By the way, there are several other political parties and you can research them to see what they stand for.

In my teaching from Iris, I learned how to get involved in my Precinct Meetings, County Conventions and I even had the honor of being elected to attend two State Conventions. I loved the process and seeing how our political process works. Yes, I’ve been disappointed in individuals and their actions and have also been very proud and thankful for others.

Reminder: No one is perfect and no one will ever believe or be just like me. That is when wisdom and discernment have to kick in.

At this time, we are preparing for the 2016 election. I will be watching and reading after each candidate in both the Republican and Democrat Party. My hope is that each candidate will share their thoughts, dreams, visions and goals for America in an honest way. I don’t need for them to tell me what the other person is doing because I can figure that out. I want to hear what they think and believe in. Here are just a few things on my list for the President and other elected officials that are wanting my vote:

*Tell me how you will love, honor, protect and guide The United States of America.

*Tell me your goals and dreams for The United States of America.

*Tell me how you will protect my family from the evil in the world.

*Tell me how you will live your life in way that would be honorable to the citizens of the country you represent.

When I make my choice, I will get behind them, support them and share their vision with others without tearing other candidates down.   I know from experience that is very hard to do sometimes when we are passionate about certain issues.

IMG_7016

In this day of twenty-four hour news channels and with the social media posts (as I’m doing) along with the common practice of shouting loudly to be heard, we have to be wise. Here is the way that I keep my mind straight in all of this:

*Read all platforms. Know what and why I believe what I do and be confident in my belief.

*Read the Constitution.

*Study all the candidates.

*Ask God for wisdom and guidance.

*Make sure I’m registered to vote.

*Get involved in my local Precinct and County.

*Know who my local elected officials are.

*Know who my national elected officials are.

*Read voter guides.

*Learn how to have discussions without being hateful and rude.

*We all have issues that are important to us. Be knowledgeable in these issues and be diligent in speaking with elected officials about my concerns.

*Pray for America!

*Pray for our elected officials, regardless of what platform they stand on.

See you at the polls!
