Needed! School Supplies!
Posted on
We visited a church yesterday and they announced that they had just filled 1,600 backpacks with school supplies for area children in need. They thanked all those that gave $20.00 to fill a backpack. They also thanked all the volunteers who filled each backpack with the needed supplies. It sounds like such a simple thing and we may even wonder if it really makes a difference. I think it does make a huge difference in a child’s life…of all ages. I have participated in helping to fill backpacks at my church and I’ve even organized events to do so. I…
Trying Hard to Love Social Media

Do you ever wish for the days when we didn’t have to carry a phone in our hands constantly? Do you miss carrying on a real conversation with someone or receiving real letters in the mail? If so, you are probably a “Baby Boomer” like me. Younger folks today can’t even comprehend how it was just a short time ago. But, we must keep up with the times and you have to admit, having our phones with us is great for safety and getting the answers we need quickly. I’ve been doing some thinking on this social media thing. I…
Cruisin’ Around Hawaii

In June we went on a Hawaiian Cruise and what fun it was! We did this same cruise a few years ago with my husbands family and enjoyed it so much. This was a Southern Gospel Music Cruise on the Norwegian Cruise Line. IMC Concerts and Inspiration Cruises were the sponsors of the Southern Gospel music groups that entertained with each evening for a couple of hours and also had an early morning devotional that was led by different members of the music groups. Out of 2,000 passengers on this cruise, 800 were onboard for the Southern Gospel concerts. It…
Happy Birthday to Me!

I celebrated my 59th birthday in May. It’s been a fast two months as I meant to write this post on my birthday. Better late than never, right? This birthday was a bit tough for me. 59 seems so…whats the word? The end of an era? I’m not sure…I just know that I did my best to “Embrace 58” and 59….well….I’m struggling. Since I was the only one at my pity party, I thought I better straighten myself up and learn to “Embrace 59.” That doesn’t sound as catchy as the 58, but, I couldn’t think of anything…
A Breath of Fresh Air

Is anyone a wee bit discouraged by what we are seeing in our culture? Maybe it’s just me, I’m not sure, but there is some crazy stuff going on. Things such as: *Language that would curl your toes (as my mom would say) *Clothing on young ladies and their mamas that leaves nothing to the imagination, if you know what I mean. *Clothing on young men and their dad’s that make you wander if there is any hope for our future. *Movies that portray anything but good. *Television programs that you wouldn’t dare leave on while children are in…
New Book Release! 30 Days of Hope When Caring for Aging Parents

I met Kathy Howard several years ago in a writing group. She has since then published several bible studies/books. Her latest book, 30 Days of Hope When Caring for Aging Parents just released and I wanted to share it with you. Kathy’s parents are both elderly and her world has now changed over to caring for her parents full-time. I know so many people are in that time of life to where the roles have changed a bit in the parent department. If you are in that season now or you want to be prepared for the future, this book…
