Wednesday Hodgepodge

I am joining in on what is called “Wednesday Hodgepodge.”   I have a friend who has been doing this for a while and I just love reading her answers to the weekly questions that are asked.  I always love reading her answers to such thought provoking questions.  I just had to give it a whirl.  I may regret it, but we will see what happens.

So here we go, my first attempt at the hodgepodge of intriguing questions:  (I’m a bit nervous!)

1. What’s the last thing you did that someone else thought was super?

Wow, what a question!  I really have to think about this one.  Maybe I haven’t done anything super because I honestly can’t think of an answer.  I think I just blew my first chance at answering the questions.

2. The last thing you ate that tasted superb?

I took our sweet little granddaughter to lunch a few days ago while in the Texas Hill Country.  We ate at the country club dining room.  They have excellent food.  I ordered the salmon and it was so good.  The sauce that was on it mixed with the rice and snow peas was delicious.  I felt a bit healthy after I finished.  We then decided to order the chocolate mousse cake and share!  Double delicious!

3. Supersensitive, superstitious, superwoman, superambitious, supercilious, supervisor, superficial…pick a super word from the list and tell us how it relates to your life in some way recently or currently.

I tend to be supersensitive in a few areas, but lately it seems when I read stories of trafficked children and missing children, I get very bothered and want to do something about it.  I try to make others aware as much as I can about the dangers and what is going on in our country.  I love the work that Shared Hope, Operation Rescue and Missing and Exploited Children are doing.  I will do all I can to bring awareness to this issue and how we can fight such evil.

4. Do you love easily? If you’re comfortable doing so, explain why you think that is.

I would love to think that I do.  After thinking about it, I’m thinking I really don’t.  My father left when I was 12 and he didn’t have much to do with me at all.  I think that left a huge scar in feeling rejected.  When we are rejected when we are young, it causes us to distrust others.  Later on in my life and while serving in full time ministry alongside my husband, I saw the not so good side of some people.  Those feelings of distrust came back.  I have a tendency to not get too close to people until I feel very comfortable.  I feel that I have a strong sense of discernment and I can read people pretty well.  I know when I see phoniness or dishonesty and it prevents me from loving someone easily.  Forgiveness is something I am constantly working on.  Only because of Christ I am where I am today.

5. Valentine’s Day lands on a Tuesday this year. Will you mark the day in some way? If you’re celebrating with a dinner out somewhere will it be on Tuesday or will you celebrate over the weekend?

I’m sure it will be on Tuesday.  My Jim and I like to go to dinner a bit early in order to beat the crowd.  I always look for the perfect card and little gift to give him. It’s always special to see the card he gives me because I know he is very particular about what a card says.   I love Valentine’s Day!  I always think that I will cook a special dinner but then the closer it gets, I would rather go out to dinner instead of cook.  Maybe someday, though.

6. What’s something you are loving right now?

I love to think on the mighty way that God has blessed me and my family.  When I look back to where I came from and then look at how far He has brought me, it’s hard for me to be thankful enough.  I am a blessed girl and oh how I love that!  I don’t take anything for granted.

7 Write a three word (or less) phrase you’d like to see on a Valentine candy heart.

“You Are Loved!”

8. Insert your own random thought here.

When I was 14, I asked Jesus into my life after hearing a message by Billy Graham.  It was in February of 1974.  He was preaching on John 3:16,

“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.”

I had faith that, yes, there is a God and His son is Jesus Christ and He died on the cross for my sin.  I so needed a Savior.  I put all my trust in Him and I have never looked back.  I gained a Heavenly Daddy that day and for this I am truly thankful!

I only wish everyone would know this type of love and would have the peace of knowing in a true and living God.

Well, I did it!  What thought provoking questions.  I will see you next Wednesday for Hodge Podge Wednesday.

  1. Hi Beverly! Thanks for joining the HP today. I’m trying to correct your link. It was missing one of the / in the http. I’ve fixed it and came via the link so hopefully it’s working now. I think it takes a minute to correct on my actual blog page. Anyway, here’s hoping : ) I enjoyed reading your answers. My hubs is also particular in what a card says, sometimes funny sometimes serious, and sometimes he buys me two : ) You have a pretty blog. I’ve added you to my bloglovin’ reader. Enjoy your Wednesday!

  2. Welcome to Hodgepodge, Beverly! I was stuck on that first question too. They’re not always easy, but I’ve found the Hodgepodge to be fun with a great group of people. Wonderful to hear of your love for God, our only source of true love, hope, and joy.

  3. Enjoyed reading your random thought! I was 15 when I was saved and baptized…in a small creek by my best friend’s daddy. It’s a day I will never forget.

  4. As the child of loving parents and as the mother of a daughter I love unconditionally, it breaks my heart to see any child in distress. Knowing that there are children who do not feel love, safety, and security breaks my heart. The organizations that work to save trafficked children and help find missing children are amazing.

    1. Hi Pamela! You were blessed to have such amazing parents. I have a wonderful mom who worked double duty to love and care for three kiddos on her own. She did an amazing job! I, too am amazed at the work that the organizations do to rescue precious ones! Thank you for stopping by.

  5. Well, good job Beverly! I was and still am so blessed with an awesome earthly father and can’t imagine the void in my life without him. Dad’s are such important figures in our lives. BTW, he’s doing okay but still not quite where he needs to be. Dr. thinks he has a UTI infection. We’ll know for sure in the morning. Good answers and hope you enjoyed playing along.

  6. Welcome to hodgepodge. I haven’t been around for too long but I am enjoying it. I accepted Christ the summer between 7th and 8th grade and that was in 1963! I enjoyed reading your answers. Blessings!

  7. Ellen, it is so good to meet you and have you join us on the weekly Hodgepodge. You will find that many of us share the desire of your heart and that is to have His heart. My dad was a country preacher in South Louisiana until his death at age 75, 22 years ago. I made my own personal decision to follow Christ at the age of 9. I look forward to following your blog and your encouragement to follow Him faithfully.

    1. Thank you, Libby. How special to have your dad serve in full-time ministry for so long. I’m excited about you following along and I look forward to hearing your words of wisdom. So thankful about your decision when you were 9.
