A New Season

August has arrived! Well, it’s almost gone now…where does the time go?

August makes me think of sunflowers, so I decided to do a little decorating on our front porch with some sunflowers. When I finished and came back inside our Ring alert kept going off and no one was there, so I did some investigating. It seems the birds were impressed with my sunflowers. They were flying up to the porch and I actually saw one fly right up to the camera. It was a little creepy, but it did make me laugh.

My special place that I’ve had for about 4 years now is what I call, Beverly’s Little Tea Room. It was just Beverly’s Tea Room, but I decided to add the word “little” as I can seat up to 6 comfortably. I will share more on my Tea Room soon. All that to say, I added sunflowers in my tea room as well. That was a long way to say that, I know.

Along with the fall season fast approaching is also a new season in life. To be honest, I’ve been in a new season for some time now. I’m just now deciding to talk about it. The last couple of years has brought many changes. I love changes. I like to see progress and various changes in all areas of home and life. I used to rearrange furniture on a regular basis. It always felt like a refresher of some sort. Now, the furniture seems so heavy; unless I’m in the mood for a workout. I think we have heavier furniture than we had in previous years. I did move our baby grand piano to the other side of our living room at one time. I got stuck and had to wait for My hero to get home to finish the job. I still have muscles but I am not doing that one again! Okay, I confess, about a month ago I did rearrange the living room except for the piano; I worked around it. Back to my topic; life changes…..

I’ve never had anyone close to me pass away before and last year we lost my brother who was three years younger than I and my mom-in-law. Both were very traumatic to me and I’m still trying to get used to both of them being gone. I do know where they are and that I will see them someday. It is different, that is for sure. It sure makes you look at life different too! My mom who has lived right around the corner from us for the past 14 years moved to a retirement village. She loves it and it is so nice, but that was a big life change as well. I’m thankful she has made a new home and is happy. We also sold our Hill Country House and we have missed seeing our kiddos as much and our other kiddos live a few states away. I love seeing our kids so happy and living their dreams. That is what we raise our children to do, right? I’m very grateful we have children who are ambitious and successful; I wouldn’t have it any other way!

My Jim and I are navigating this new season with excitement to keep living life to the fullest. We did something a couple of months ago that I will share soon. I think you will love it!

Okay, I will tell you! We bought a vacation house in a beautiful place. I will share that later, but trust me, it is going to be fun! I want to reveal it when it is all ready. Speaking of changes, furniture styles have changed dramatically over the past few years so it’s been a struggle to find my style out there. That makes the hunt even more fun, though.

We have had a couple or so second homes over the past few years. Our first one was in Edmond, Oklahoma while our son was working in that area. Then we had a lake house that we shared with my brother and his family. Next was our house in the Hill Country of Texas. I am so thankful for the many memories we made at each of those homes. It all seems like just yesterday. I’m looking forward to this next adventure!

Along with a few changes, I thought about giving up a few things like my blog and my writing as well as my fun side kick of sharing fashion style and color with friends and family. I even thought about turning my Tea Room into a reading room or something. But, I came to my senses and said, “I don’t think so!” I love what I do! I feel called to each adventure I get into and I decided, I will keep on with the things I love. I may even add some more things I’ve been thinking about.

“The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” John 10:10 NKJV

How are YOU doing in this new season? How are you living each day to the fullest? When the enemy whispers in your ear that you aren’t accomplishing anything, you have no purpose, no one wants to hear anything from you, what do you do? I so hope you stand up and realize that God has a purpose for your life. If you are breathing right now, YOU have a purpose! I would love to hear how you are accomplishing living your life to the fullest! Feel free to leave a comment or email me. YOU have much to offer! Don’t listen to the naysayers and for sure don’t compare yourself to others! We live in a social media driven world where perfection is rampant. Granted it’s fun to see all the beauty and inspiration out there, but YOU are to bloom where you are planted! I always have that song go through my head when I say “Bloom where you are planted!”:

“Brighten the corner where you are! Brighten the corner where you are! Someone far from harbor you may guide across the bar, Brighten the corner where you are!

I don’t remember singing that as a hymn, which it was written in 1912….but I remember hearing a gospel group sing a version of it years ago. Who knew I’d end my blog article with a lesson on a hymn from 1912?

I can’t wait to hear from you on how YOU are blooming where you are planted!

Until next time,

  2. Oh, how I loved this post!!! Sunflowers to brighten up my day and your beautiful encouraging words to instill a more positive outlook on my day to day kind of “nothing’s happening” life… I love you, Beverly… Thank you!!! <3

Really, things are good here. My son and grandchildren are coming for lunch today after being on the east coast for two months. It will be so fun to see them. And what have I been doing with my time over the HOT summer… knitting Woodland Friends for our Artistry opening in October, and painting some commission pieces. So, I get to be productive inside with air conditioning. So thankful for that! God is sooooo good!

I'm so excited to hear more about your new house venture. I hope you don't keep us waiting too long. 🙂

    1. Hi Karin! Thank you for your sweet words! I’m glad you were encouraged while you work on your amazing talents and gifts. I so hope I can see your Artistry someday soon! The Woodland Friends sound adorable! I’m thankful you are getting to work inside as well. It has for sure been a hot one this year! I think it’s hot every year, but I always forget how hot it can get! Have fun with your kiddos!

  3. I like the color carried through to the outside of your tea room with the umbrella and cushions. Yellow is such an uplifting, cheerful color. La! 💛🌻

    1. Caroline, I agree with you! Yellow is so very cheerful! I like the black/ white stripe added with it, too. That was new for this year. We’ve had a turquoise umbrella the last couple of years. The west Texas wind gave it a run for its money and we had to replace it. I chose yellow and I’ve loved looking out at it…refreshing and uplifting for sure! Thank you for your fun comment!

  4. Good morning!
Love your sunflowers!🌻 They are my favorite flower – happy, bright, sunny, resilient, ability to thrive and most loyal following the sun all while growing tall!
Oh, I am so glad you didn’t covert your little tea room. Still have a desire to come and enjoy that with you. I know we talked about a mother daughter tea/sweet 16.., now it might need to be celebrating Keelyn’s 21st next year 😳!
You and your family continue to be in my prayers with the loss of your brother and your mother in law. Loss of our loved ones is difficult and the pain never goes away. Thankful for our Hope in seeing them again one sweet day.

We are hanging in there. We have had lots of changes these past several years too.. continuing to navigate through those. Kiddos are well and school is underway. Keelyn, sophomore at A&M, Lawson, junior and Lanham 4th grade. Sports continue to keep us busy!!
And, don’t stop blogging. It encourages me every time and it’s the best thing in my inbox. 💕
Give Jim a hug for us!
    Love you!

    1. Shelley, you are in such an amazing season of life! Hang on as it will seem to go by so fast the older your kiddos get. You are an amazing wife and mom! For the past 22 years sunflowers remind me of my oldest sister that passed away. Sunflowers are bright, fun and always looking up towards the sun.

  6. Hi Julie! Thank you for your sweet comment! I’m so happy that you enjoy reading my blog; you are an encouragement! Sunflowers are a happy flower, aren’t they? What a sweet way to be reminded of your sister! 22 years seems like a long time, but it’s really not when missing someone so close to you! Thank you again, for being a reader of His Heart, My Desire! 🙂
